Delivering for Bass

Since my election, I have worked hard to listen to the issues that people within the Bass electorate want changed. There is more work to be done, but here is a summary of some of the outcomes I have achieved for the people of Bass.

Macquarie House Transformed

On Saturday, 14 September I was pleased to have welcomed Prime Minister Scott Morrison to Launceston for the official opening of Macquarie House. The Federal Government contributed $2.8 million towards the project as part of the Jobs and Growth package. The funding for this redevelopment has turned one of Launceston’s oldest buildings into an innovation, entrepreneurship and technology hub.

Tasmanian Housing Debt Wiped

I have been working closely with Minister Sukkar towards an outcome that will deliver the best result to improve the lives of many northern Tasmanians and was thrilled to welcome the Minister on Sunday, September 8 to announce the Federal Government will be wiping Tasmania’s historic housing debt. This is a wonderful, collaborative achievement for the entire state and I’m pleased to have been able to represent our community in this way.

Funding Boost for Northern Tasmania

Northern Tasmanian start-ups were recently given a boost after Enterprize Tasmania Ltd received almost $225,000 in funding, as part of the Federal Government’s Incubator Support Initiative, to expand their incubator program.

Launceston City Deal

I recently joined with Federal Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population, the Hon Alan Tudge MP to launch the next phase of the Launceston City Deal and to discuss the $15 million Northern Suburbs hub which forms part of the City Deal under the Council’s My Place, My Future plan. During the campaign I made personal representation the Prime Minister about the importance of this community hub and the impact it would have on the northern suburbs. Stay tuned for more on this project as it progresses.

Riverbend Park Opening

It’s finally open! I was so pleased to be joined by hundreds of families and community members on Saturday, 17 August to officially open Riverbend Park. A joint effort between all levels of government, the federal government contributed $6 million in funding towards this incredible community park.

Headspace Funding

Waiting times for young people seeking mental health support through northern Tasmania’s headspace facility will be reduced, thanks to an investment of more than $630,000 from the Morrison Government. The additional funding will help headspace Launceston meet demand from young people through the provision of extra clinical services, such as structured psychological interventions, group interventions, family counselling and intervention clinics. Funding will also enable the service to make system-level changes to improve long term sustainability.

Branxholm Sawmill Funding

I recently joined Branxholm Sawmill General Manager Dale Jessup to officially open the sawmill’s new Optimiser and Control System. Partially funded by the Australian Government under the Regional Jobs and Investment Packages, the system has already enhanced the competitiveness of the business, has boosted the local economy with the creation of four ongoing jobs and has increased the area’s out-of-state export facilities.
